Halloween...getting ready

All of the sudden it is the week of Halloween. I'm not necisarily a big fan, but enjoy getting the girls dressed up! This year Lindsey asked to be a black cat, which there is a picture in a previous post (and will be more after Sat.). Courtney didn't really seem to care, surprise surprise, and has gotten into watching 101 Dalmatians at times lately. I asked her if she wanted to be an dalmatian and she said yes. So, we made a sweatshirt with black dots (she did it!) and she's going to wear black pants and I have to come up with some way to make ears (suggestions if you have them, please!) by Sat. night! We broke out the paint yesterday and she loved doing it!

Lindsey had to make a pumpkin for her school. The only directions were to "decorate" a pumpkin. We carved one the other night and she wanted to take that one. However, I knew that other children would go "all out" (or their parents would) and have elaborate pumpkins. I didn't really care but didn't want her to feel funny about her pumpkin being plain. So I told her that sometime people painted them and made things out of pumpkins. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do. Sure enough, Monday morning there were several that were very elaborate and over done. I think she quickly realized what I meant It is not your basic pumpkin decorating project! However, I also wanted her to be able to do it for several reasons...1. It is HER project, not mine! 2. The teacher in me doens't understand what the point is of having children do something like this at home, if they don't get to help or do a lot of the work on it. I looked online and found a black cat example! Perfect I thought...she's going to be a black cat, she'll love that idea. And she DID! Here she is painting her pumpkin!

Here is the finished project. She painted it all by herself. She helped "fold" the whiskers and she colored and cut out the nose. We just used a headband with ears that we had already bought! I think it turned out pretty cute!

Today my friend Shannon Walker came over to take newborn pictures for me. It was part of the maternity package/pictures I did with her this summer! While she was here the girls opened a present from my Aunt Jerry. It was this precious tiny tutu!! Perfect timing! Shannon was here and could take some pictures with it on! I asked her if I could snap a few just to have knowing they wouldn't be anything worthy of her quality, but still cute just for me to blog about! So, here is Whitney in her tutu from Aunt Jerry! Pretty stinkin' cute (the tutu is too--ha!) if I do say so!

Kids Say the Darndest Things

I meant to post this when I did some pictures of Whitney as a newborn, but kept forgetting. These are just a couple of things lately that I've heard from Lindsey and Courtney.

In the hospital when Whitney was in the nursery just after being born, they were all standing and watching. The nurses obviously had different babies doing different things. My understanding is that Ryan had shown Whitney to the girls as he walked her to the nursery and then they saw her in the window. As they were standing there, Courtney was looking for Whitney and said, "Where's the baby with the hat?" I guess she knew Whitney had a that little hospital hat on and then there was a baby there without it on and Courtney knew/thought that wasn't Whitney since that baby didn't have a hat! Ha! Those are the moments I miss out on since I'm in recovery. I love the stories though!

Then not long after we'd been home. We were sitting in the living room and just hanging out. Courtney looked at me and said, "When are you going to be through having this baby?" I thought my mom was going to fall on the floor laughing! Seriously! I asked Courtney what she meant, explained that we were finished having the baby and now Whitney would be at our house forever! She didn't really respond. I THINK she meant how long was Honey going to stay because she knew Honey was staying because we'd had a baby? I don't know, but it was funny!

Yesterday on the way to school the girls were talking about all the things God made--looking out the window and saying "God made the sun. He just said "sun" and there it was." Is how Lindsey was explaining it to Courtney. So then it was "He just said _____ and it was there." So we talked about a lot of things God made that we could see. Then Lindsey says, "God is like Mary Poppins." Ok...where is this going I thought. Then she says, "Like when they were cleaning up the toy room, they snapped their fingers and things cleand up. But, Mary Poppins isn't real and God is real." I love it! Yes, that is it Lindsey--you got it--God is real!

Apparently I say "seriously" a lot because as Courtney was pretend playing yesterday with her babies, she said, "Seriously?!" with the expression in her voice as though she was asking a question. It is funny to hear them talk so big, sort of scary too how often I hear myself come out in their words and pretend play of being mommies and a teacher!

Our 3 Pumpkins

Yesterday we took our first family outing as a family of 5. We went to the "pumpkin patch" (which is really just a nursery with pumpkins)! The choices were VERY slim to say the least, but the girls didn't know the difference and were super excited to pick out their own pumpkins! No, we didn't get the green pumpkin, but Courtney thought it was cool.

There were a few HUGE pumpkins and Lindsey found one to sit on.

Lindsey wanted to get out ALL the seeds and acutally would touch the gross inside! It was funny! Courtney wanted nothing to do with the mess.

And this is Courtney's most favorite thing to do! She loves to stand on her head in the chair. The other thing she loves to do is lay on her back and flip herself over. Apparently I was like that. I can remember my mom saying, "I can't believe Lindsey doesn't climb on things." So now we have our monkey that likes to climb. Making a funny face was her idea...gotta love her!

Here is the diaper bag I ordered for Whitney today! I'm so excited! I can't tell if this is brown adn white or black and white. But, I asked for it in black and white. I'm really excited to get it! Here is our angel!

This is Courtney playing "mommy" with her baby. First off, notice her outfit...leotard and cowboy boots! Nice! Second, she got the boppy herself and got on the couch. She then covered up her baby. You can see her leotard is almost off of her shoulder. That is because she was trying to figure out how to feed her baby...if she had had a t-shirt on I'm confident the baby would have been under her shirt! I remember Lindsey doing the same thing when Courtney was a baby. I love it! She loves playing babies and loves being the boss whenever she can! Where does she get that?

I took Whitney to the doctor today for the first time. He said she looked very good and very healthy! She has gained a pound since she was born (plus a little bit if you count what she lost in the hospital). She weighs 8 pounds 11 ounces. She is getting longer too. She was born 20 inches long and now is 21 1/2 inches long! Way to go Whit! She's doing good. Eating (obviously) and sleeping well. She has her moments at night where she doesn't want to go back down too quickly after eating, but overall I have nothing to complain about. Thank you Lord for a healthy, happy baby! What a blessing she is! I can't imagine life without her!

Game Day

Too bad game day today means that we have to play Florida...since we will more than likely get stomped! But, oh well, none the less...she's ready! Wooooo Pig Soooiee!!

4. Trying to sleep with some LOUD big sisters. This was hilarious! The girls were acting crazy and being so loud. I went to check on Whitney and this is what she was doing!

We've been having fun. Just hanging out. I'm trying to stay home and keep our family well. Which is so hard for me! But, I know it is the best thing for my family. I just pray that God will continue to keep our family well and protect us from this flu and all the junk going around!

Life goes on...

Friday night Ryan took Lindsey to the Greenwood football game. He wanted to go and Lindsey LOVES to go, so it worked out to be a great "get away" for Lindsey! She is the one that struggles the most with the changes around here and the jealousy part of having mommy and daddy busy with other things. So, Courtney and I gave Whitney her first bath. Courtney loved being the BIG sister and helping! Of course....So then on Sat. afternoon (after watching the Hogs beat Auburn!!! Wooo Pig!) Lindsey had a costume birthday party to go to. She asked to dress up like a black cat for Halloween this year. I wasn't sure about how it would look or what we'd do to make it "cute" but she made it super cute I thought! Very easy and she has fun dressing up!!

Sunday morning Whitney was praising Jesus! You know how newborns just move their hands all around and hold them up, stretch, etc. It was funny because my parents and I were watching church on TV since we didn't go. During the worship part, Whitney did this! Perfect!

This was before Monday she went back to school...

Mom is here and has been busy taking the girls (and me along for the rides) all over. Mondays are gymnastics days, Tuesdays both girls go to school all day--the rest of the week should slow down as far as the choferring goes. Mom is going home on Friday sometime and we will spend the weekend just here as our family of 5. Ryan's mom is coming Sunday afternoon to help with things next week. I can drive on Wed. We asked her to stay the week just in case, so I assume she'll stay until Friday...then reality is here for sure!

So far so good

I'm going to try and get caught up so here goes....

Whitney was born on Wed and we came home Friday afternoon. Here is our first family pictures as a family of 5! That just sounds crazy to me still!

This is all dressed to come home. Mom got this bonnett for her. It is a bonnett to come home from the hospital in and it is a hankerchief for her to carry at her wedding. Very neat!

This is our Scogin family "thing" to wear a shirt from the town we live in. It started as an accident, but Ryan has worn an Olive Branch, MS shirt and 2 Greenwood shirts!

Whitney June

Here are some special people in my life...Amanda (nurse) and Dr. Lindsey Seale (best OBGYN ever!)! This was back in pre-op before my surgery. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these two girls so much! Here is the first pic of Whitney!

This is what Lindsey wanted to do all afternoon. If someone else was holding Whitney, Lindsey wanted to know when it was going to be her turn again! Seriously!!!

Courtney was interested enough to be cute, but was also easily entertained by other things going on too! She would first introduce her as "Baby Whitney." So sweet!

Lots of family came and there will be lots more pictures to come....we had a great day. Praise the Lord! I'm so thankful for a healthy baby girl!
