This past week was a crazy one! We had some drama here at the Scogin house. The allergies here are horrible, so Courtney and Lindsey especially had been fighting a runny nose. After 2 weeks of it not clearing up and medicines not working for Courtney I took her here in Greenwood to a Family Practice doctor. Simply for convience. He said her ears were "red and had fluid" and if she didn't feel better in the next few days then get her Ammoxicillan perscription filled. So, being the good mom, I just did it the next day. This was on Tuesday, March 13th. The next week she wasn't better, so I decided to go to our pediatrician and have her looked at. She was still fussy, had a slight fever and was sort of messing with her ears. I took her to the doctor on Wednesday, March 21st. Her ears weren't clear and she'd been on the antibiotic for 8 days. He said at that point in the medicine, they should have been pretty much clear and they weren't. So, he decided to put her on Omnicef. I gave her the dose that night, put her to bed, things are great. The next morning as she was playing I noticed a rash on her leg. It looked like several mosquito bites or something, then I noticed them on her arms and other legs. They began to look like what I remember as chicken pox looking like. Just small red circles, but not a "patch" just circles. The only thing she had different was the medicine, so I called the nurse. We took her off of the Omnicef and gave her Benadryl every 4 hours ALL DAY long. She said if it was an allergic reaction it would help, if not it might just be a virus coming through as a rash. So, it wasn't better, but worse, after a dose of Benadryl. I called back and they told me what a "reaction" rash would look like. It wasn't looking like that to me. She wasn't acting as though it was bothering her, but it was spreading very quickly. By that night it was ALL OVER her! I went to dinner with some friends and came home to a HORRIBLE rash covering basically her entire body. If it had not been 10:45 and we weren't 30 min. from an Emergency room I would have been there. It was THAT bad! So, the next morning, Friday, March 23rd we were at the doctor's office as soon as we could get there. It was a "text book" allergic reaction. So, no more Omnicef for Courtney! Ever!!! They gave her a steriod shot and 2 perscriptions. One for a new antibiotic and one for an oral steroid. By that night it had started to really fade and she was looking better, but that wouldn't take much!
Saturday Ryan and I went on a double date and the girls got to play with Uncle Kyle and Miah! They were sweet to come down and babysit for us. Ryan had gotten some yard work done on Sat, but needed to finish some more on Sunday.
So, Sunday morning we were bad and stayed home from church so he could finish. We were getting ready to go to Sunday School and literally walking out the door. I had the diaper bags on my arm and was checking my hair (as any woman does) one last time when I hear Ryan SCREAM! Courtney had fallen from his arms after she arched backward while Ryan was trying to pick up Lindsey! It was so scary! Bless her heart. By the literal GRACE OF GOD she wasn't badly hurt. Obviously Ryan felt horrible and none of us really knew what to do. I tried to get ahold of some church friends to see if they knew a pediatrician at church we could find, no one had their cell phones in church, normally a good idea. However, I wish they would have had them on Sunday. I ended up talking to a nurse and she reassured me that Courtney was more than likely fine and I in turn reassured Ryan. We think she actually hit her cheek because it is the only spot on her face/head that was red and now is very slightly bruised. She is great, babbling and talking her normal noises, eating good and sleeping great! We are so blessed and we take it so for granted until in those scary moments of "what might have been" hit you like a ton of bricks! Thank you Lord for healthy, happy children that you gave us. We truely don't realize how blessed we are!
